Road Runner® and your cable company are dedicated to an ongoing effort to protect you, the Road Runner customer and the Road Runner network from spam, Email viruses, and other unwanted Emails. Therefore, we would like to make you aware of policies regarding the amount of outgoing Email that you can send per day from the Road Runner outbound Email servers. This limit will have no effect on web access or on the ability to download and read Email. This change is being made as an effort to reduce spam, increase the safety of the network, and better serve you.
Currently, a Road Runner customer can send Email to 1,000 recipients per day per IP on the outbound Email servers. Once a user has reached the limit, their Email will be refused by the Email servers for the next 24 hours. Since the average user sends mail to less than 50 recipients per day, most customers will never be aware of the limit. However, many are surprised by the limit since they know they are not sending Email to more than 1,000 recipients per day. In many cases these customers have a virus on their computer which causes their computer to send spam. Typically, infected customers are unaware that their computer is being used in this way.
In the unlikely event that you reach the threshold for outbound Email, you will receive an error message containing the following information:
ERROR:5.7.1:550 Outbound Mail Refused - YOUR_IP_ADDRESS See

In order to help you secure your home computer, we suggest that you do the following:
- Scan your computer for existing Trojans, viruses and security vulnerabilities. We recommend downloading Time Warner Cable Internet Security, which is available for free to our Time Warner Cable Internet subscribers.
- Always use anti-virus software and make sure that your anti-virus definitions are up-to-date. Visit http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/ for more information.
- Consider the use of a firewall.
- Turn off all unnecessary services from your machine.
- Make sure that you are up to date on all relevant security patches for your machine's operating system. View Microsoft's Windows Update and Macintosh Security Bulletins for more information.
- Turn off file and print sharing services on your machine. Note: Home networks, if in place, should be considered before taking this step.
- Be aware of where and when you enter passwords, logins and other sensitive information on the web. Do not give out personal information, logins or passwords unless you are aware of to whom you are giving them.
